FEA Validation Workflow: From Mesh Checks to Review Evidence
A practical FEA validation workflow for defining load cases, checking mesh quality, reviewing solver behavior, and documenting decision-ready evidence.

Define the validation question
Start with the engineering decision the analysis must support: strength, stiffness, fatigue, thermal behavior, vibration, or release readiness. Record the acceptance criteria before reviewing results.
Build a controlled model
Document geometry revision, material data, contacts, constraints, load cases, element formulation, mesh controls, and solver settings. These inputs are part of the evidence, not just setup details.
Review results and sensitivity
Check mesh quality, convergence, reaction-force balance, stress or displacement patterns, and sensitivity to relevant assumptions. A single contour is not sufficient validation evidence.
Create a review package
A useful package connects assumptions, solver checks, KPI tables, images, warnings, and reviewer decisions. Version the package with the model and analysis revision so changes remain traceable.
FAQ
What is an FEA validation workflow?
It is a repeatable process that connects model setup, mesh and solver checks, result review, correlation or acceptance criteria, and documented engineering decisions.
Which FEA checks should be automated?
Mesh quality, missing properties, load and constraint completeness, solver warnings, reaction balance, KPI extraction, and report assembly are strong candidates for automation.
Apply this workflow to your engineering program
